Finding oneself

Today’s world of work implies finding the best of ourselves, creating work around who we are and how we can contribute to the wellbeing of others, while establishing balance in our lives. We want our work to be a vehicle for growing and expanding our sense of self, for discovering more about who we are and even to be a vehicle for our love and our spirituality: making money supporting ourselves materially and financially in the process. So how can career counselling help?

How can it help?

Career Counselling is a process primarily to help us see where we want to go in life and how we can get there. It is actually a DIY issue, but there are professionals around to give a hand. This can be helpful as it tends to speed up the process, at the same time as opens it out more, and presents the opportunities available that we might not realize ourselves, and the best way to achieve what we want to do.

The ball is our own court though. We have to decide ourselves – not the Career Guidance Counsellor. It is my life, I take responsibility for it. It is not anybody else’s problem. This Career Guidance Counsellor is basically there to help second/third level students, parents, or ordinary individuals, offering a comprehensive range of services for the client’s career related needs, such as subject choice, transition year planning, CAO, UCAS application, adult guidance, etc.

Let’s hold off and allow a little bit of time for reflection, there is quite a bit to take in within the context of career guidance and self. We will look into the areas that career counselling can help. Click on our next career guidance link to follow the journey!
