The Postgraduate Certificate in Peace Process Practices is designed to enable students attain a deep understanding of the nature of the conflict dynamics and issues related to peace, security, violence, democracy building, intra- and inter-state wars, peace operations, conflict management, mediation and negotiation, conflict transformation and sustainable development with particular reference to the Irish Peace Process. The programme contributors are experienced mediators in conflict and peacemaking and draw from this experience in their presentations. Leading actors in the Irish Peace Process present their lived experience to the class. Previous guest speakers included; Baroness Nuala O’Loan, Ms Liz O’Donnell, Mr Bertie Ahern and Mr Austin Currie. Students develop practice skills in conflict intervention through simulation and a Peace Project. This project is developed, implemented and self assessed while on the programme.

Anyone with a continuing interest in deepening their understanding of conflict dynamics and interventions in the context of national and international Peace Process Practices.
What qualifications will I receive?
Successful students will graduate with a Maynooth University Post Graduate Certificate in Mediation & Conflict Intervention - Peace Process Practices at level 9 in the National Framework of Qualifications and 20 ECTs.
Students who are successful in the Postgraduate Certificate in Mediation & Conflict Intervention will also be deemed to have completed two modules of nine required for the Masters in Mediation & Conflict Intervention. They can then add modules to build either to a Postgraduate Diploma in Mediation & Conflict Intervention or complete a Masters in Mediation & Conflict Intervention.

Graduates find work both through self employment and employment. Some agencies, providing a mediation service, employ mediators. Many graduates use the knowledge and skills gained on the course for application in their current employment. This programme will be of benefit for those who currently work in or aspire to work in NGOs, charities or those who engage in UN Peace programs.
The programme is delivered as part of our ongoing Masters programme in Mediation & Conflict Intervention. New students shall be joining existing MA students who are at various stages of completing their full Masters.This Post Graduate Certificate in Peace Process Practices consists of two modules of 6 days each. Each 6 day module in turn is broken down into two 3 day blocks (Thursday/Friday/ Saturday). Successful students will graduate with a Maynooth University Post Graduate Certificate in Mediation & Conflict Intervention – Peace Process Practices.
