Course Overview/Contact:

This Masters programme provides a challenging learning experience for those who wish to deepen and integrate their mediation knowledge and skills. The course aims to develop the student’s ability in the analysis and critique of mediation and conflict intervention theory and research.

The course also delivers specialist professional training in the areas of Family Mediation, Organisational and Workplace Mediation, Commercial Mediation, Peace Process Studies, Restorative Practice, Conflict Resolution in Education and Restorative Practice in Schools. The programme has a significant experiential element, providing ongoing opportunities to learn reflectively through exercises and in practice through individualised feedback and coaching.

Formal presentations provide background theory on mediation specialist areas and are delivered by practitioner mediators.

Career Options:

Graduates are provided with the knowledge base for practice in the specialist areas of mediation taught on the course, family mediation, workplace mediation, restorative practice, commercial mediation, peace process studies, conflict resolution in education and restorative practice in schools. On completion of 75 case hours graduates may apply for Practitioner Status with the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland.

Course Structure:

The programme is delivered on a rollover basis over two years. In consultation with the Course Director students select 9 modules over two years. Students must complete one compulsory module and a further three or four modules each year.

Entry Requirements & How to Apply:

Applicants will be required to have all of the following:

  • A primary degree in any subject.
  • Career experience relevant to mediation.
  • A written Personal Statement.
  • References from two referees.
  • Interview.
  • A Mediators Institute of Ireland Certified Training course or equivalent is essential. 

Applicants without a primary degree may be considered if they have An NUIM Diploma in Mediation & Conflict Intervention OR if they have all of the following A Certified Mediation Training and a Mediation Role Play Competency Assessment (accredited by the Mediators Institute of Ireland or equivalent). 

An extensive career portfolio of not less than 10 years in total, including at least three years practice as a mediator. 

  • A written Personal Statement.
  • References from two referees.
  • Interview.

Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

Minimum English language requirements: please visit Maynooth University International Office website for information about English language tests accepted and required scores. The requirements specified are applicable for both EU and non-EU applicants.
